RONALD R. IRONS
WATERCOLORS

about
Ronald R. Irons
biography
Born and raised in western Missouri, surrounded by the hills and stories of Jesse James
and the sound of distant trains. Growing up, Ron spent many a summer on his
grandfather’s farm in Elkhorn, chasing cattle, baling hay and skinny-dipping in backwoods creeks.
Ron began his love of art at a young age with cartoons and dinosaurs being the favorites of a
9 year-old boy. Drawing and coloring on any paper he could find, he ultimately graduated
to more complex subjects: Superman comics and Mad magazine.
In high school, Ron and his family moved to Pennsylvania and the land of Amish buggies, funnel cakes and rural countrysides where the landscapes began making an impression on his art. Off to college and wanting to continue in a creative career (and still afford to eat), he graduated in Advertising Design (BFA) at Kutztown University (PA) and then began a long career in the ad agency business as a Creative Director. All the while wishing there was more time to paint.
Always inspired by Andrew Wyeth and David Armstrong, Ron began painting full-time
after retiring in 2015. Since that time, he has worked primarily in watercolors and is a
Signature Member and winner in the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
